Principle of DC Motor Speed Control Technology
Jul 04, 2024
DC motor speed regulation technology refers to the process of manually changing the motor speed as needed during the operation of a DC motor. This technology is crucial for many mechanical equipment as it directly affects the performance and efficiency of the equipment. The principle of DC motor speed regulation technology involves the transformation of electromagnetic torque, current direction, and the application of various speed regulation methods.
Electromagnetic torque and current direction transformation
The key to subjecting the armature to an electromagnetic torque in a constant direction is how to timely change the direction of the current flowing through the coil, that is, to perform a so-called "commutation". The combination of a commutator and an electric brush ensures that the current in the coil edge under each pole is always in the same direction, allowing the motor to rotate continuously.
Speed regulation methods and principles
1. Voltage speed regulation method
Voltage speed regulation method is one of the simplest and most common speed regulation methods. Control the motor speed by changing the power supply voltage of the motor. This method is applicable to DC motors and certain AC motors.
2. Resistance speed regulation method
The resistance speed regulation method is to adjust the input current of the motor by changing the resistance value of the bypass resistor, in order to achieve the goal of adjusting the motor speed. This method is simple and easy to implement, but has low efficiency and is only suitable for small and medium-sized motors.
3. Excitation current and PWM speed regulation method
The dynamic speed regulation method adjusts the input current of the DC motor according to the changes in the motor load, thereby achieving the goal of adjusting the motor speed. The most commonly used method is to adjust the excitation current and command pulse width of the motor for control. This method can achieve constant power regulation and improve motor efficiency.
Application of speed regulation technology
DC motor speed regulation technology is widely used in various machinery, especially in machinery that starts under heavy loads or requires uniform speed adjustment, such as large reversible steel mills, winches, electric locomotives, trams, etc.
